Hidden Alleyways of Bukchon Hanok Village
About This Tour
Step beyond the tourist crowds and discover the secret stories of Bukchon Hanok Village with a local who grew up playing in these ancient alleyways. This immersive walking tour takes you through 600 years of Korean architectural history, from the elegant curves of traditional hanok rooftops to the hidden tea houses where artisans still practice centuries-old crafts.
We begin our journey at the lesser-known northern entrance, where morning light casts golden patterns through the wooden lattice screens. As we wind through narrow passages that most visitors never find, I will share the stories my grandmother told me about the families who built these homes during the Joseon Dynasty.
Along the way, we will visit a master calligrapher working in her family studio for four generations, taste traditional rice cakes prepared using methods unchanged for 200 years, and find the perfect hidden viewpoints for photographs that capture the soul of old Seoul.
